Education

1972-75         Finnish equivalent of ‘A’-levels in Finnish, English, Swedish, German, Russian and General Subjects (History & Geography).

1986-87         DipRSA (Diploma for Personal Assistants). Weston-super-Mare College of Further Education. The course included Typewriting (RSAIII), Audio Typewriting (RSAII), Computing (RSAII), Law, Economics, Management and English for Business Communications.

1995-97         Translation course organised by the University of Helsinki. Eighteen months of remote study with five weekend workshops in London. During the course learned theory and practice of translation from Finnish into English.

1997         Completed a Word for Windows course at Nailsea Further Education Centre.

1998         Passed the Institute of Linguists Diploma in Translation examination, thus entitled to use the lettering DipTrans IoL; became an MIL (Member of the Institute of Linguists, London) in 2001. Also a member of SKTL (the Finnish translators’ professional body).

1999         Obtained GCSE Spanish, Grade A*, currently studying for a Spanish A-level.

2003         Obtained a TEFL diploma.

Experience

1975-78         Teaching and childcare jobs in Spain, Russia, Germany and England.

1979-86         Part-time job as a Finnish teacher in UK.

1987-89         Personnel Secretary at Hotel Sofitel Doha Palace, Doha, Qatar.

Personal Assistant to HM Consul at the British Embassy, Doha, Qatar.

1990-92         Temping: Secretary at Multilingual Matters, Clevedon (publishers of language related books and journals); Secretary at Jordans, Bristol (publishers of law books).

1992-             Finnish teacher at the Finnish Saturday School in Bristol, and privately.

1997-             Freelance translator working for translation agencies and private clients, specialising in tourism, advertising and commerce. Experienced in DVD subtitling. Able to work in PowerPoint, Excel and Wordfast.
